Strike app does not support bitcoin in Argentina

Just three days after its announcement in Argentina, the Lightning Network-powered Strike app supports Tether's USDT stability coin in Argentina only.

Argentinian users have complained that the app does not allow buying, selling or holding Bitcoins like Strike users in other countries. The company didn't mention Tether-only support in its Tuesday announcement.

In a tweet, Strike mentioned the arrival of the Argentinian as CEO and founder Jack Mallers promised "financial savvy", adding that Strike would "raise hope for Argentinians by using #Bitcoin, a monetary network open world". I did.

Strike's entry into Argentina was part of a push for expansion into Latin America. In a statement, the company said users will be able to send money, receive Bitcoin alerts on Twitter, and use Strike's peer-to-peer trading service.

Strike did not respond to CoinDesk's request for information regarding the use of Tether (USDT) on the Argentinian platform. At the time of the announcement, the Company did not mention any user complaints regarding the Twitter account or website.

Argentinian user Nicolás told CoinDesk that the app can accept Bitcoin payments, but immediately convert cryptocurrencies to USDT. He said he only holds USDT in his Strike wallet. Another Strike user in Argentina, Adam, tweeted that the app was "depressing", saying it was a storage bag that only works on Tether based on the Ethereum ERC-20 model.

Adam wrote that the app contains inputs and outputs that allow users to connect to cryptocurrencies, such as sending USDT and then receiving bitcoins through network lightning.

Nicolás said he was able to send money from his Strike wallet to an exchange in Argentina and then receive bitcoins.

In response to Nicolás, Luis David Esparragoza, a reporter for Spanish newspaper Criptonoticas, said that Strike was sending Tether, not Bitcoin, to cryptocurrency exchange Bittrex, which holds and exchanges Strike money.
