My decision for 2022: distributed storage
The entire industry is looking forward to the future development of the blockchain ecosystem.Whether the metaverse is used to describe future ecology or the web3 is used to describe future ecology, it is inextricably linked with fundamental and decentralized storage.
Competition in decentralized storage operations has always been a concern, and projects in this area have always been everyone's capital. In my 2019 post, I started to share some thoughts with you about this and share my hopes for Filecoin.
Looking at the growth of Filecoin over the past few years, I'm honestly not happy with its success, but looking around it doesn't seem to be stronger in this area. So Filecoin has always been in the middle of this space, but two years ago a new company, Arweave, was emerging.
He said this happened immediately because there were already several projects that had already been used in the real world, such as Boring Ape in the NFT area and Solana in the public channel.
Arweave and Filecoin are similar at first glance. The two are divided, but a closer look reveals the main differences between the two.
What Arweave is trying to solve is the perpetual storage problem: the one-time perpetual storage problem.I remember looking at the text, but the result is not good if the content placed in Arweave can be stored for at least 200 years, the content is a bit vague.
And Filecoin solves the problem of withholding payments like how much you have to pay to hold it for how long.
So, in a distributed space, Arweave is the new and unparalleled timeline, while Filecoin rivals the ever-available cloud storage.
Most of the existing decentralized storage services compete with traditional cloud storage, which is Filecoin.
So far, I think the most powerful player in the competition with cloud computing remains Filecoin. However, in many workplaces around the world the implementation of Filecoin is not as high and the actual implementation is the standard under IPFS. In this regard, Filecoin's performance is inferior to Arweave's.
Of course, Arweave also has a lot of issues to tackle right now, such as high costs and low income. So it still takes time to adapt and adapt.
However, considering the current situation, after several years of development in competition with the natural climate, all distribution solutions have been tried, but Nobody has come out so that everyone can see the people who have the hope. It is a bit disappointing.
I also often wonder if the forecast or the understanding of the whole company may be affected. Is it possible that decentralized storage in the metaverse or web3 ecosystem is the new normal? Is this something we haven't considered? Doesn't this approach compete with the happy medium when it comes to cloud storage? Is the Arweave option possible as a last resort?
I don't have a clear answer to this question. We have no choice but to follow the analysis.
We have no hope for Filecoin in 2022 as we haven't seen any presentation from Protocol Labs so far. There have been rumors for a while that Protocol Labs would like to add support for smart contracts, but this approach is essentially hassle-free, non-invasive, and discreet.
However, as I said before, the director's performance was unsatisfactory, let alone the performance of the second and third kids, so I took a sudden step back in this area and can't wait. to see the leader's performance. again. , and I always look forward, there are black horses on the ground.
