Binance Sponsors Africa Cup of Nations, Launches Cryptocurrency Accepted in Africa
On Monday, the football tournament of the African Cup of Nations TotalEnergies (CAN), Africa's greatest male football player, kicked off. Meanwhile, Binance announced a joint venture with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and tech sponsorship of the AFCON 2021 football tournament, making the event the premier cryptocurrency and blockchain manager.
With this support, Binance will also take care of CAF content issues in the relationship, including best service of the day, best service of the week, and best service in social competition. This includes competitions that take place in 6 stadiums in 5 cities in Cameroon.
"We look forward to welcoming Binance as a sponsor of this year's CAN Track and Field Championships," said CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba. Mosengo-Omba is delighted that this partnership "takes African football to the next level".
CAN 2021 marks the start of the African sports calendar, which runs until February 6.
CAF's partnership with Binance is part of an effort to provide financial services to Africans with restricted access to services from banks and other financial institutions. Binance says it has provided free cryptocurrency training to more than 541,000 Africans to date.
“Soccer is the most popular sport in Africa,” said Emmanuel Barbala, director of Binance Africa.
