Disney received a patent for a metaverse technology park
Disney patents have been granted to create personalized interactive features for park visitors. The technology will help make headset-less reality (AR) fun in Disney parks.
The technology uses cell phones to track visitors, create and execute 3D personal effects on neighborhoods, walls, and park objects.
Fun Entertainment received patent approval for the "virtual world simulator" on December 28, 2021. It first filed this application with the US Patent and Trademark Office in July 2020.
A "metaverse" is often necessary to access the Internet through virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality headsets. However, the technology developed by Disney will bring the transition to the real world.
This is not the first time that Disney has taken an interest in the metaverse. Announcing its fourth quarter results in November 2021, the company's CEO Bob Chapek said the company plans to integrate the physical and digital assets of the metaverse.
"The more we can connect the physical body to the digital world, the more limitless explanations can be made in our own Disney meta-world."
In November 2020, Disney Resorts CEO Tilak Mandadi announced on LinkedIn that his goal is to bring the digital and physical world together.
At the time, he wrote: “As we look to the future, integrating parks that intersect physical and digital issues and open up new avenues is a very exciting feeling for us. . "
“These experiences are stable and guests can participate inside and outside the park. They are unique to you but friendly and sociable. They have changed everything. So there is something new to discover. "
The recent license describes Mandadi's vision for a “metaverse park,” but Disney told the Los Angeles Times that “there are no immediate plans” to use the simulator in the future.
There are 12 Disney theme parks around the world, including the United States, Paris, Hong Kong, Japan, and China. Although the world is shutting down due to the spread of COVID-19 2019, in 2021 Disney theaters, past experience and distribution generated total revenues of nearly $ 17 billion. .
