New Jersey:No, the money is worth what they give us. Since the Ethereum Foundation is a non-profit foundation, the only reason it gave us money is to improve the quality of the ENS.

ENS operating mode

CR: Can you tell us about your business model and your income list? Previously, you didn't think about the revenue issue when you separated from ENS, but you said that the company's turnover is stable, what is your vision for the future? Do you want to make your business profitable? Can you talk about your real income now?

New Jersey:I always wanted to make ENS a profit rather than a business venture, or wanted to make money because I wanted people to use the domain name. However, the first problem that needs to be addressed when creating a domain name is how to ensure that names that people find useful or useful are immediately taken from scientists and not resold on the aftermarket.

When the creation of a medium does not eliminate this situation, it is only if the name is stolen cheaply and set the price to get more thought. the most precious thing. Processes like Namecoin have been criticized by scientists for their lack of resources. Popular names are hard to come by because scientists have used high prices to sell them. And the secondary activity is not profitable either. Therefore, we want to avoid this problem as much as possible without endangering the end user.

The first version of ENS has a contest, and if you win the contest, you will not be refunded if you have a registered name. Of course, this approach must have a positive impact in theory, because it's not for the benefit, it's just the cost you have to pay to use your domain name.

The problem is, the squatters and speculators know they are going to sell their name and get their money back. However, long-time investors have avoided the fact that giving domain name registration is not true and cannot get their money back, and this situation is the result of illegal use. Therefore, we have decided to adopt the standard annual registration fee, and the fee is also nominal. For entries with 5 or more characters, the annual entry fee is US $ 5. Ethereum exchange rates are now much more expensive. However, this model limits reliability for some, and unregistered records are returned to the registry, which generates more revenue than necessary.

Based on Ethereum's current value, ENS has around $ 40 million in assets in multiple signatures and DAOs going forward, of which $ 20 million has been acquired by us. For example a 2 year registrar registered one year ago and now the first year we have already received half of the money and the other half will be recognized as previous income then. When DAO goes live in the future, it also has its own tokens to reward those who participate in management or perform certain tasks that follow the development strategy of the ENS.

The path to decentralization

CR: Can you tell us about your vision or your goal to create a DAO?

New Jersey:From day one, our goal is to establish a system of autonomy, which means that human domination should be abolished as much as possible, and we firmly believe that this is the best way to establish self-control. At the same time, we need to reduce the number of systems that dependents have to run, and to do this we create systems encrypted with a certificate and gradually remove some rules. Obsolete. Therefore, even the main ENS administrators who use ENS for task management will no longer have this right and can no longer affect the existing registration. They will not be able to do it even if in the end we are led by the DAO.

The second thing we need to do is change our old 70 bar management model to a more distributed one, in the future DAO will control the whole development. We have raised enough money so far, and in addition to operating costs, we will use the money to support other public health projects and other activities in the Ethereum ecosystem. We don't want to give ENS to DAO, which is still in its infancy, because we think DAO is still new and development is not mature enough when we are created. But since then, even in the last 6 months to a year, the ecosystem has matured. Not only many tools have been developed, but they also have rich features and smart contract. You said you have no control over which means no one can control the work of ENS so it sounds amazing. What do you do with these risks, and why do you think distribution is a deciding factor?

New Jersey:One of the reasons why the ENS has been like this since the day it was created. But at the same time, many DAOs are now being developed and executed in management systems, and by learning from them we have also earned our trust and assurance that we ENS was not dispatched. .

In my opinion, the worst case we can face is abuse and misappropriation, but this does not guarantee the safety of ENS users and the use of wrong rights without torture.

CR: Can you tell us how you created the distribution of ENS tokens? Why is this so?

New Jersey:Establishing a token distribution process is also essential to achieving our long-term goal: good products for the community. Distributing tokens is the most common way to examine the number of registrations made by a user or the number of years of registration. However, there is also a problem with this distribution: some people who want to use the system for their own benefit will receive more policies, which is not necessary for the development of the system, and those who have used the system. did not receive much reward.

Therefore, we want to create a system capable of identifying the users of the system and distributing airdrops to the real users of the system. Moreover, these measures should be difficult to forge.

Therefore, we divide the airdrop into two parts. Half of it depends on the days the account was previously registered. So if you have domain name registration from day one, you can get the biggest airdrops. However, if you register the day before the Snapshot, you will not get paid. It's a hard day to hit, but it's a great cast as it can complete the artifact by determining the drop when developing ENS 4 years ago.

However, this model ignores those who wish to join the ENS, so the other half of the airdrops are subdivided according to the expired last name. We think this is a good indicator. CR: What part of the total token produced will be distributed to the user and the holder of the ENS?

New Jersey:25% will be distributed to airdrop holders and 50% will remain in the DAO safe to be kept by token holders.

CR: What is the ENS token market? How much does a token cost?

New Jersey:Tokens are meant as management tokens and DAOs can add additional functionality to them, but our main goal is to have the people who have helped ENS complete the administration to help manage the entire system of tokens. CR: How does the ENS integrate internet registration and website design?

Thus, each user can have their own twitter.com address or any other name they wish to use. Therefore, we have written all of these existing DNS entries into ENS because we believe that improving our existing registry services is the starting point for future machine transfers. .

CR: Are web 2.0 domain owners currently setting up .com, .org or another domain name in ENS and associating their current domain name with their blockchain account?
