Swiss Post launches the first encrypted postage stamp on Polygon
The Swiss National Post recently released Switzerland's first crypto stamps in November. Crypto stamps come in two forms: the body of the stamp is worth 8.90 Swiss francs, and each stamp has a dual digital version connected to the encrypted world via a unique QR code.
The body of the stamp has only one design, but digital stamps have 13 different designs, and the rarest ones. Some models can only be placed in 65,000 pieces, while others are limited to 50 pieces.
When purchasing a Swiss crypto stamp, the consumer is unaware of the digital design associated with it and has no choice. Buyers must scan a QR code printed next to the body symbol to view the digital twins during an online transaction.
NFT terminology has not been used to avoid jargon threatening non-professionals. The spokesperson confirmed that the Swiss crypto stamp is in fact an NFT published on the Ethereum Layer 2 Polygon network.
Encrypted delivery is the strong message of the business transformation of Swiss Post which has always led to the technology and innovation industry, which means the collection, exchange and transfer of information.
Swiss Post is not the first government agency to publish blockchain digital writing. The Lithuanian Central Bank previously issued 24,000 tokens based on LBCoin blockchain technology.
Also in 2018, Swiss Post joined forces with Swisscom to develop a national blockchain infrastructure called Swiss Trust Chain which supports the Hyperledger Fabric framework.
